Thanks for signing up for an hour in the prayer room! On this page you can find some practical information and answers to some frequently asked questions for your convenience. 



• The prayer room is in the SKLO-building, Kraneweg 33. Please make sure you are there on time for your prayer slot. In case you cannot make it anymore, or if you want to change things last-minute, please contact a member of the 24-7 team.  
• Please do not break the chain of prayer, keep the prayer continuing for 24-7! Make sure there is always somebody to pray after your hour. When the person who signed up for the hour after yours doesn't show up, stay for a little longer or let the team member know. 
• Important: when you arrive at the SKLO-building, do not ring the door bell! Please call the telephone number provided (it will be +316----------) and someone will open the door for you. This is so you will not disturb the people who work in the building and the person who is praying there. For security reasons the door will be locked during the night.
• There will always be a member of the 24-7 team in the building. He will answer the door and show you the way to the prayer room. If you would like a chat about your experience in the prayer room we will be happy to talk with you.
• Please show some respect for others. Don't make a mess of the prayer room but leave it tidy. Especially in the night, but also during the day, be quiet when you arrive and leave the building. Do not disturb anyone and follow the instructions of the 24-7 team member if necessary.
• For safety reasons we would strongly advise women not to come on their own during the night. Please make sure you have someone else to go with, when signing up for a nightly hour. If you are a man, it is allowed to come on your own during the night. 
• When you signed up, you will have the prayer room all for yourself. It is possible to come and pray with a group, but for practical reasons it is not allowed for more than five people to be in the prayer room at once. If you would like to pray with more than five people, please contact the team.

Why do we need to pray in a prayer room? Can I not just do it at home?
The great thing about a prayer room is that all the distractions you have at home, are replaced by encouragements to meet God. The computer, your mobile phone or study books and everything that reminds you of the busy normal life are gone for a moment. This way we hope you can fully concentrate on God.

Besides that, signing up for an hour in a prayer room is a good way to actually do it. Do you recognise that you have the full intention to sit down and pray, but it never happens because there's always something else that needs to be done? When you sign up you have to come. There are plenty of testimonials that speak of a great experience and we want everyone to have the chance to experience it for themselves!

And lastly, we take Jesus as an example. In Mark 1:35 we read of Him seeking a quiet place to pray. If He does it, why shouldn't we?

 

What is the reason for a chain of prayer? Isn't it a bit too much to pray for a whole week? 

24-7 prayer is first of all intended for persons individually. Prayer is a personal thing and we want to facilitate this in the room. But when you know that your prayer is connected with the prayers of others, it adds more value to it. In the prayer room there will be facilities to write down your prayers and read the prayers of others, so you can feel this connection. We come together in this prayer room as a family of God in Groningen. Even in all our differences we can be together and have this experience together.

Another thing is that by organising a week of prayer we can reach a huge group of students. We hope we can stimulate a lot of people to sign up for an hour. We believe that this will lead to a lot of interaction with God and lifes being changed. 

Why do you think 24-7 prayer is important?  
We know from experience that setting apart one hour for God and engaging with Him is special and powerful. Through the Bible, especially in the example of Jesus we see that prayer is of huge importance. By praying, not only talking but also listening, we can deepen our relationship with God and give Him the posibility of speaking to us. When you set apart one hour of prayer you will meet God and give Him the chance to work in your life or in the lifes of others. Testimonies and previous experiences with 24-7 prayer show that prayer can be powerful and refreshing. This is an invitation to try it for yourself! 



Do I need to pray out loud? Can I choose for myself what I will be praying for? What happens when I'm stuck after half an hour? 

In the prayer room you can decide for yourself how you want to pray. This is very personal and we're not gonna prescribe it. You can pray out loud, or in silence. You can dance, sing, cry, make music, jump, sit down, write, draw, etc. And of course you can pray for whatever you like. Everything is possible!

To give you some inspiration there are a lot of creative ways to pray, accompanied by an explanation. We're sure that you can easily fill one hour of prayer with this!
